Atlanta Track Club Elite professional athlete Shane Streich, the American and NACAC indoor record holder in the 1,000 meters, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss competing April 26 in his first USATF 1 Mile Road Championships Presented by Toyota as part of the annual Grand Blue Mile Presented by Wellmark in Des Moines, Iowa. Streich also explains he will make his road mile debut April 16 in the B.A.A. Invitational Mile in Boston, competing against fellow Americans, along with athletes from Canada, Ireland and Morocco. He shares he will also be competing in an invitational 800-meter race April 30 at the Drake Relays Presented by Xtream and Powered by Mediacom. Streich revisits finishing third in 1:46.86 in the 800 at the USATF Indoor Championships on Feb. 27 at The Podium in Spokane, Wash., and just missing out on qualifying for the World Indoor Championships in Serbia. He also reflects on clocking 1:45.90 on March 5 at the Meet of Champions in Chicago in his final indoor race, before transitioning to his outdoor training. Streich reminisces about his experiences competing last year for Lipscomb in the 800 at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships and placing sixth to earn All-America honors, in addition to his learning experiences from reaching the semifinals at the U.S. Olympic Trials. He examines his motivation to compete June 22 at the McKenzie International and running a personal-best 1:45.85 in the 800, and the confidence that provided entering this year. Streich speaks about his 1,000 performance Feb. 12 and running 2:16.16 to elevate to the No. 8 competitor in indoor history, and how he feels it will contribute to his future 1,500 and mile performances. He expresses gratitude for his collaboration with Atlanta Track Club Elite coaches Amy Begley and Andrew Begley, along with the opportunity to train with such a deep and well-rounded group. Streich also talks about how significant his faith has been in providing patience during his collegiate career at Minnesota and Lipscomb, along with his transition to competing in his first year as a professional athlete.
